The Indigenous Multiethnic University Aldeia Marakanã (UPIAM), the Transfluences of Knowledge/UFRJ and the Culture Committee/MinC: triad of sharing Cultural (R)Existence

Abstract

This article investigates the relationship between culture and an indigenous university, analyzing the challenges and possibilities present in the actions of the Pluriétnica University of Aldeia Marakanã in the conception, organization, production and execution of the event Transfluentes de Saberes. The research in this article seeks to understand how the Indigenous University, in sharing knowledge, but leading the processes, can contribute to cultural (re)existence, the decolonization of knowledge and the formation of indigenous leaders. Based on a review of the literature and with a particular focus on the relevance of Transfluentes de Saberes, we seek to understand how initiatives that promote the encounter between original/traditional, academic and political knowledge, such as this event, can contribute to the construction of a more decolonial space for the Westernized university, aiming for the academy to embrace the knowledge silenced by historical and current epistemicide. Sewn together by three female voices: an anthropologist, a psychoanalyst and an indigenous leader, the article discusses the importance of interculturality, indigenous autonomy and the articulation between traditional knowledge and academic knowledge.
